Fortuna was the Roman goddess of fortune, as well as a personification of luck in early Roman religions. While these are the most common themes surrounding Fortuna, she was also recognized for other reasons in Roman society. She is often depicted with a cornucopia on her head. This can be traced to the belief that Jupiter was her father and, like him, she was bountiful (Copia, in Latin). Food is often featured in the cornucopia in Western society, and as Annonaria, she protected grain supplies.
 
The depiction of Fortuna included on the PAMP Suisse gold bar is the common image of the goddess with a blindfold covering her eyes. On this gold bar, Fortuna has a cornucopia on her head. Flowing forth from the cornucopia is a bounty of riches, all of which are captured by her clasped hands at the bottom of the bar.
